Vosges: A Second Village Faces PFAS‑Related Water Restrictions

The issue of “forever chemicals” has resurfaced in drinking water supplies in the Vosges region.

🚰 A New Restriction in Tendon

On Monday, 20 October 2025, the prefecture declared the drinking water of Tendon (Vosges) unsafe for consumption for sensitive individuals due to an exceedance of the limit for the sum of 20 PFAS.
The average concentration measured was 0.14 µg/L, above the 0.10 µg/L quality threshold.
This restriction applies to pregnant women, infants, frail elderly individuals, and immunocompromised people.

📈 A Worrying Trend

This precautionary measure comes six days after a stricter order in Arrentès‑de‑Corcieux, where analyses revealed 0.73 µg/L of PFAS.
These peaks follow a series of exceedances documented by Générations Futures during the summer:
0.68 µg/L on 11/08/2025
0.86 µg/L on 02/09/2025
These results show persistent contamination, leading authorities to extend restrictions from sensitive populations to all users.

On Tuesday, 14 October 2025, the prefecture issued an order banning tap water consumption for the entire population served by the public network.
The decision was confirmed on 15/10/2025 by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Grand Est.

Beyond the Vosges, 17 municipalities in the Ardennes and the Meuse are also facing similar PFAS‑related challenges.

🔍 Measuring to Act

One thing is clear: to act, we must know.
Measurement is the starting point of every effective response.

🛠️ Diversifying Methods: The Fluorine NMR (19F) Alternative

CASC4DE’s non‑targeted 19F‑NMR fluorine method complements targeted analyses by estimating the total organic fluorine load and the total PFAS, not only the 20 compounds typically monitored.
